Free Software Foundation, Tamil Nadu, presents a two days workshop on the Philosophy of Free Software.
The following topics will be discussed.

- GNU project and Manifesto
- Ownership of Software
- Open source and Free software
- Patents
- CopyLeft
- Licenses

Days: 7th & 8th of Jan 2012

Time: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Place: University of Madras, Chepauk.

We are regret to inform you that we would be charging 100 Rs. as registration fee.
Unfortunately the University of Madras venue(which was free) has been changed due to its internal university events to this new venue(which is paid).

Exebit 2011 - FOSS Workshop

Learn about Content Management Systems and how they can help you easily update your website's content including pictures and files. See what a Drupal website looks like for visitors and for the updater.

Drupal is a free and open source content management system (CMS) written in PHP and distributed under the GNU General Public License, and is a free software package that allows an individual, a community of users, or an enterprise to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website.

Do you think that the mobile manufacturers still use Nokia's Symbian O.S. in Mobiles? Have you noticed the open-source platforms like Android taking over the smart phone market? If you are interested in knowing these latest platform, then this workshop is the place to start. This workshop deals with the development of mobile applications on Android platform.

FYI: In Q4 2010 the Android O.S. was the world's best-selling smart phone platform, dethroning Nokia's Symbian from the 10 year top position, according to Canalys.

Each workshop will take around 3 to 4 hrs. Drupal will be a hands-on workshop, whereas Android App Development would be a normal session. Participants are allowed to bring their laptops.
Participants are screened based on their profiles.

Workshop on GNU/Linux at SRK Engg College

Last Friday, Dec 3, We had a workshop on Gnu/Linux at
SRK Engineering College, Poonamalee, Chennai.

We had around 30 participants from vatious colleges and organizations.
College provided the LAB with redhat machines for the practice.

gave intro about the FOSS History and its growth.
Then, he moved to explained the concepts of "Visualization".

Using the "virt-manager" in the computers, he demonstrated on how to install another OS inside a host.
Participants explored the "virt-manager" and the hands on session was interesting to all of them.

I showed a demo of ubuntu desktop, multimedia, office applications, and other alternate applications.

Raman trained on the shell commands and linux file system architecture.
Then, he moved on "Perl" Training.
It was so interesting to see the participants learning perl with much interest.
Myself and Dhilip were helping them to practise.

Due to less time, I missed the handson training on Python.
