> Talk 3: Alternative and Augmentative Communication

Abstract:
Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) aims to provide a medium and a mode of communication to non-verbal users. While the hearing impaired have successfully adapted to the use of SMS, and can also rely on sign language, those with multiple disabilities still cannot independently communicate their thoughts and wishes. The 1st AAC conference was held at IIT-M in Dec 2005, and it led to the creation of Hope (software), Kavi and Vaani (hardware). We now need customized applications, especially in local languages.

SpamCheetah is an OpenBSD based spam control LiveCD that does not even allow spam to come in. This approach is refreshingly different from traditional content scanning methods. This talk will look into the internal design of this open source product and also analyze how it does load sharing and fail-over to give 99% uptime. We will also take a brief look at the business side of SpamCheetah.
