Indian Linux Users Group - Chennai [ http://ilugc.in ] December 2011 meet held on 10/12/2011

We had 20 participants.

Sathya explained about the CakePHP.
He demonstrated how to create a simple blog system using cakephp.

Logesh narrated about WordPress and its features.
He explained on how wordpress can be used as CMS.
He demonstrated the wordpress installation and features.

Chakravarthy explained about iptables and its rules.
He explored its features and securing a linux server with iptables.

Yogesh brought some 10 students from Layola Engineering College.
They are looking for a linux or any programming training in their exam vocation.
Requested them to ask a lab in their college for a training.
Will update to the list once they get permission.

Minutes of Meetings - Aug 2010 meet

Again, ILUGC meet made a history.Yes. The participants count is 70

:-)

Thanks to all.

We started at 3.20 PM.we have to make it sharp at 3 in the upcoming meetings.

Raman stated with the meeting information with CDAC about BOSS.Then, he started his Linux Admin Session.Today, he explained "File Permissions in Linux"Different file types, User, Group, Others,read,write,execute permissions,chmod,stickybit, setuid,setgid are the topics he covered with live demo.

Chandrashekar Babu started his Ruby Talk.He explored Object Oriented Nature, strings, Classes,Loops, File System Handling, irb, threads in Ruby.He compared Ruby with shell, perl scripting withlot of live code examples.

Suki Venkat showed his open source application "MultiFlow".It is a easy software for authoring Latex Documents easily.He showed the XUL and javascript code, he developed.

We had a discussion about Software Freedom Day 2010 on sep 18.We got place at Birla Planetarium.Thyagarajan started the discussion for volunteers and stalls.We got request for stalls from MIT, Jaya Engg College, AVIT, SRM, Fedora Team,Sworks and kanchilug.Ma.Sivakumar accepted to volunteer for the publicity in media likemagazines,social media, FM, web, colleges, poster, banner etc.

We will discuss the list of stalls and volunteers in a separate thread.

Minutes from the june month Ilugc Meet

We had a nice meeting in IITM.

Arulalan gave his talk on "Introduction to Latex".
He explained on how he prepared his College Project Report using Latex.

Raji could not attend the meeting.
Postponed the Django talk to next month meet.

Balakrishnan from kanchilug explained how they
brought the "Ubuntu manual in Tamil"

Discussed about the following.

1. Summer Workshop

1.1 Should create a web based form in ilugc.in
for talk registration and participant registration.

It will be easier to fill the details than wiki.

1.2 Need Place for conducting Workshops.

LinuxPert Systems
Lynus Academy
Jaya Engg College
Anna University
Science Center, kotturpuram

SRM University - vadapalani
Easwari Engg College, Porur
A.M.Jain college, Meenanbakkam
Loyola College

Are some nice places for workshops.
Need volunteers to contact these to organise workshop there.

Please collaborate with us if you have any contacts with above mentioned
organizations or any other place in chennai for conducting
Workshops, Events, LDD,SFDs, Foss Conferences etc.

1.3 Until we get a place for summer workshop, we postponed all the workshops.
We need to get a place as soon as possible.

2. Monthly Meetings

2.1 Need to get more physical people in the monthly meetings.
2.2 Meetings should be announced at least 1 week before. No Last
minute announcements
2.3 Minimum three topics. Should include a student talk, for
beginners, for experts.
2.4 There may a series of talk every month.
ex : session on Linux administration that covers LPI/RHCE syllabus
/ PHP/ Perl/ Python etc

2.5 Should Invite the speakers individually
2.6 Announce the upcoming/planned talks in wiki or site
2.7 how to bring more people to monthly meets? - Need more ideas

3. FossConf 2010

3.1 Need a place. Any college should organize the event.
Jaya engg is interested. SSN also would be interested.
3.2 Should contact Arts & Science colleges also.
3.3 We can have the event on August-September month for 2 days
3.4 Need Physical Volunteers
3.5 If not possible in chennai, then we can contact south india
colleges like mepco.

4 Workshop on "Doing Business with FOSS"

4.1 I am discussing with some entrepreneurs, who are doing business with FOSS.
They agreed to give talk on such a workshop.
4.2 Birla Planetarium will be nice place for such a workshop.
Will contact them and announce it soon.

5 Adopting Students

5.1 Should adopt a college or group of students and train them continuously
5.2 Have to conduct series of sessions on various topics for them
5.3 We can train them for GSoc like competitions
5.4 Have to make them to contribute to FOSS
