Mailing list plays a very important role in our ILUGC activities. So it is very important for us to maintain and use it properly. This mailing list guidelines will help the new comers (or even experienced users) to understand the netiquette. Every one in the list are requested to follow this guidelines, to maintain better readability, proper archives, efficient bandwidth usage and keep quality, valuable, valid content.
Before posting to the list, please read and understand each and every point listed below. **REPEATED** violation of guidelines may result in the revocation of your posting privileges.
1. Use a proper meaningful Subject line.
2. Use only Plain ASCII Text (HowTo)
3. Warp your text at 70 column
4. Messages should be short and to the point. (Before posting do spell-check and re-read)
5. Participate but be polite.
6. Do not Troll or start Flame Wars or Personal attacks in the list.
7. Use [OT] tag for off-topic, non-technical discussions, Use [Commercial] tag for commercial postings and [JOB] for job postings.
Examples:
Subject: [OT] Science Day Event
Subject: [JOB] Linux Admin
Subject: [Commercial] Linux Support and Service
8. Do not reply to the list on the commercial or job postings.
9. Do not Top-Post in the reply.
Example of a Top-Post:
My name is ILUGC
> What is your name?
Always use Bottom-Post style in the reply.
Example of a Bottom-Post:
> What is your name ?
My name is ILUGC.
10. Do not over-quote.
Example of an over-quote:
>>> On Friday AA said
>>> blah blah blah
>> On Saturday BB said
>> foo foo foo
> On Sunday CC said
> foobar
11. Gmail/Yahoo normally hide the quote at the bottom of the mail. Don't follow this style. Disable that feature and quote manually.
12. Do not recycle messages.
13. Do not send attachments, like images, obnoxious, nonsensical legal disclaimers. If your company uses legal disclaimer, do not use your company ID for the list.
14. Do not reply to a digest message. (If you are in digest mode and want to reply to a post, use ILUGC Gmane blog interface: http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.org.user-groups.linux.ilugc)
15. Search for the answer/solution for your question/problem in the search engines (Google/ Yahoo), before posting it to the list.
16. Do not post messages in all capital letters. Mails in CAPS is considered rude and is similar to shouting during a conversation.

18. Do not send season's greetings or social network invites to the list.
19. Signature should NOT be more then 3 or 4 lines.
